The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a planned six-hour power outage in parts of Niger State due to scheduled preventive maintenance at the Suleja Transmission Substation.
In a notice issued on Friday, TCN said the maintenance would take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., affecting electricity supply to Suleja and surrounding communities.
“This maintenance exercise will enable TCN engineers carry out routine checks on the transformer to ensure its continued optimal performance,” the company said in a statement signed by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.
According to the company, the exercise will be carried out on one of its 60MVA 132/33kV power transformers at the Suleja substation.
As a result, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to off-take bulk power during the maintenance window, leading to temporary outages in Suleja, Jere, Field-Base, Gooda Tech Plus, and neighbouring areas.
TCN assured that electricity supply would be restored immediately after the completion of the maintenance work.
The company also apologised for the inconvenience the outage may cause customers, noting that the routine checks are necessary to ensure efficient and reliable power transmission.
The planned outage is part of ongoing efforts by the transmission company to maintain critical infrastructure and improve stability in the national grid.
