The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced urgent rehabilitation of the vandalised Ikot Abasi–Eket 132kV double-circuit transmission line in Akwa Ibom State, deploying two contractors to accelerate the restoration work.
The rehabilitation covers Towers J4 and N9 to N12 along the transmission line, which were damaged in recent acts of vandalism.
During an inspection of the project site on Friday, September 25, 2026, TCN officials said significant progress had been made, with the affected towers completely dismantled and their bases recast.
The Regional Manager, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Nasir Bello, was represented during the inspection by the Assistant General Manager, Transmission, Dr. Ubani Raymond.
Raymond said the inspection was aimed at ensuring that the rehabilitation work complied with approved engineering specifications and that necessary adjustments were made promptly where required.
He urged residents of Ikot Abasi to remain vigilant and help protect critical electricity infrastructure in their communities from vandals and other criminal elements.
The Head of Lines, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Azuh Lucky, also stressed the importance of close monitoring of the rehabilitation to ensure compliance with engineering standards and the quality of the completed work.
Lucky commended TCN management for engaging two contractors to fast-track the project, but noted that difficult terrain and persistent rainfall had slowed the pace of construction.
The Principal Manager, Uyo Work Centre, Engr. Eguaikhide Clement, expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded at the site and commended the contractors for their commitment to completing the rehabilitation.
The Ikot Abasi–Eket line forms part of the transmission infrastructure serving communities in Akwa Ibom, making the rehabilitation important to the reliability of electricity transmission in the area.
TCN has continued to face vandalism of transmission infrastructure, which can disrupt electricity supply and increase the cost and time required to restore damaged facilities.
The company has repeatedly called on communities to support the protection of transmission towers, lines and other power assets against vandalism.
