The Transmission Company of Nigeria has commissioned a new 330kV Turn-In Turn-Out transmission line in Edo State to strengthen power evacuation and improve grid stability across the country.
The project, linking Ihovbor/Benin and Ihovbor/Ajaokuta, was inaugurated on Thursday at the Ihovbor Transmission Substation by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of TCN, Engr. Sule Abdulaziz.
According to the company, the new transmission infrastructure will enhance the evacuation of electricity from key generation sources, including the Azura Power Plant and the Niger Delta Power Holding Company.
“The project will enable TCN to efficiently evacuate power from the Azura Power Plant and Niger Delta Power Holding Company, improve bulk electricity wheeling across the country, and enhance the resilience of the national grid,” the company stated.
The commissioning marks a significant step in efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s transmission network and reduce bottlenecks that often limit the delivery of generated power to distribution companies and end users.
Industry stakeholders say improved transmission capacity is critical to maximising output from power plants and ensuring stable electricity supply nationwide.
The development is part of ongoing investments by TCN to expand grid infrastructure, improve reliability and support the country’s growing energy demand.
