TCN Holds Anti-Vandalism Sensitization Campaign in Niger State Community

LAMBATA, Niger State — The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has conducted an anti-vandalism sensitization campaign in Lambata Community, Gurara Local Government Area, as part of efforts to safeguard power infrastructure and improve electricity supply nationwide.

The initiative focused on discouraging the vandalism of transmission facilities and illegal construction under transmission line right-of-way corridors, which authorities say continue to threaten stable power delivery.

Rising Concern Over Vandalism

Speaking at the event, General Manager, Transmission, Engr. Musa Shuaibu, said the campaign was prompted by increasing incidents of vandalism targeting transmission infrastructure.

He noted that the frequency of such acts has reached unprecedented levels, warning that vandals often sell stolen components for minimal gains while causing widespread power outages that affect entire communities.

Shuaibu added that repeated damage to infrastructure diverts critical resources meant for expanding the national grid and improving electricity access.

Safety and Economic Impact

He also highlighted the dangers associated with vandalism, stressing that such acts can be fatal due to the risk of electrocution.

According to him, prolonged outages caused by vandalism can severely impact essential services, including healthcare facilities that rely on stable electricity.

Security Agencies Issue Warning

Representatives of security agencies at the event warned that perpetrators would face strict legal consequences

An official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), DSE Adah Ngbede, emphasized the importance of protecting national assets, stating that electricity supply depends heavily on the integrity of TCN infrastructure.

Police representative ASP Galadima Edward urged residents to report suspicious activities around transmission installations, assuring swift response and collaboration with other agencies.

Community Engagement and Support

Traditional leaders also called for greater community involvement in protecting infrastructure.

The District Head of Izom, Alhaji Ibrahim A. Salihu, encouraged residents to take ownership of transmission facilities and work closely with authorities to prevent vandalism.

Broader Campaign Efforts

TCN said the sensitization campaign is part of a broader strategy that includes stakeholder engagement, public awareness, and community partnerships aimed at reducing vandalism and ensuring reliable electricity supply.

The event drew participation from multiple stakeholders, including the Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC, Vigilante Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Niger State Road Traffic Management Agency (NISTMA), traditional rulers, community leaders, and members of the media.
