TCN Schedules Delta Power Outage for Grid Upgrade

ASABA/WARRI, Nigeria — The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned power outage across parts of Delta State to facilitate critical maintenance and upgrade works at the Delta 132/33kV Transmission Substation.

The outage, scheduled to run daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. between July 2 and July 4, 2026, will temporarily disrupt electricity supply to multiple communities as the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) will be unable to receive bulk power for distribution. The development was disclosed in a statement signed by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs, TCN.

According to the company, the maintenance will involve the installation of a 132kV bus coupler circuit breaker and the rehabilitation of five isolators on the main bus bar—key upgrades aimed at strengthening grid stability and operational efficiency.

“The exercise is part of ongoing efforts to improve the reliability and efficiency of the national transmission network,” the statement noted.

Areas expected to be affected include Effurun, Warri, Sapele, Osubi, PTI, PMSL, Enerhen, Refinery I and II, as well as several industrial and residential clusters connected to 33kV feeders such as Isoko/Kwale, Otovwodo/Patani, Ughelli/Shell, Agbarho/Eku, Aladja, Imoniyame and Beta Glass.

TCN assured that electricity supply would be restored daily at 5:00 p.m. upon completion of each day’s maintenance activities, while apologising to customers for the inconvenience caused.

The planned outage underscores ongoing investments in Nigeria’s power transmission infrastructure, as authorities seek to enhance grid resilience and reduce system disruptions nationwide.
