TCN Schedules Seven-Hour Maintenance at Gwagwalada Substation, Warns of Minimal Load Disruption

Abuja, June 20, 2026 — The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a scheduled maintenance exercise at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation, with minimal load disruption expected during the operation.

In a statement issued on Saturday, TCN said the maintenance would take place from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., allowing engineers to carry out routine preventive checks on a 150MVA power transformer and its associated switchgear.

According to the company, power supply will be sustained across affected areas through alternative arrangements. “During the maintenance exercise, the 132kV Kukwaba, Apo, Karu, Keffi, and Akwanga substations will be fed from Katampe, while Gwagwalada will be supplied from the second 150MVA transformer in service,” the statement said.

TCN, however, noted that consumers may experience slight load limitations within the seven-hour maintenance window.

The company apologised for any inconvenience caused, stressing that the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to ensure efficient and reliable power transmission across the Federal Capital Territory and adjoining areas.
