Oyebanji Defeats ADC Candidate Bejide in Own Ward as Ekiti Governorship Vote Begins

Ado-Ekiti, June 20, 2026 — Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured an early lead in the Ekiti State governorship election, defeating African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Ambassador Dare Bejide, in his polling unit and ward.

Results from Polling Unit 004, Ward 2 in Ekiti South-West Local Government Area show Oyebanji polling 140 votes, while Bejide scored 37 votes. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate received 2 votes.

The outcome marks a significant early advantage for the incumbent governor as collation of results continues across the state.

Oyebanji, who is seeking re-election, is contesting alongside 13 other candidates in the race for the Ekiti State governorship seat.

Observers note that while results from a single polling unit do not determine the final outcome, early returns often provide insight into voting patterns and party strength in key areas.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to continue the collation and announcement of results as voting concludes across the state.
