Ado-Ekiti, June 20, 2026 — Ekiti State Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, has recorded a landslide victory at the polling unit of Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, in Saturday’s governorship election.
Official results announced by the Presiding Officer, Mrs Elizabeth Oregbemeh, show Oyebanji polling 164 votes, far ahead of his closest rival, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr Wole Oluyede, who secured eight votes. The Action Democratic Party (ADP) candidate, Mr Ayodeji Ojo, received one vote.
The result further consolidates Oyebanji’s early advantage in the closely watched governorship contest as vote collation continues across the state.
Reacting to the exercise, Senator Bamidele expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, describing voter turnout as encouraging. He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the timely deployment of electoral personnel and materials across the state.
According to INEC data, Ekiti State has 1,059,360 registered voters, with 1,028,929 having collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the poll.
Observers note that while results from individual polling units are not definitive, they provide early indicators of party performance in key locations.
