Maiduguri, Nigeria — Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have dismantled a terrorist roadblock mounted by suspected ISWAP fighters in Borno State, rescuing 53 civilians and recovering eight vehicles during a coordinated military operation.
The operation, carried out by Sector 2 troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area on June 24, followed intelligence gathered through surveillance.
According to a statement by the Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, troops deployed at Dutse Kura detected insurgents blocking the highway and immediately activated a Quick Reaction Force.
“A Quick Reaction Force team immediately mobilized to the scene and pursued the insurgents… engaged the terrorists in a firefight, forcing them to withdraw in confusion,” the statement said.
The military confirmed that 53 civilians held by the insurgents were rescued during the operation, while eight vehicles earlier seized by the terrorists were recovered.
Troops also advanced to clear the withdrawal routes of the insurgents towards the Mangari–Dora axis, maintaining dominance in the area, although no further contact was made.
All rescued victims and recovered items have been safely moved to Buratai town, where the civilians are undergoing documentation and medical evaluation.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide timely intelligence on suspicious activities.
The military added that the security situation in the area remains calm, with troops sustaining aggressive operations against insurgent elements across the North-East.
