Former National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of becoming “synonymous with fraud and corruption,” citing the controversy surrounding the 2026 Federal Budget.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, Frank alleged that the budget was riddled with inflated allocations, questionable expenditures and fictitious projects, saying the development had further eroded public confidence in the management of public funds.
“The recent revelations and controversy surrounding the 2026 Federal Budget have further reinforced the widespread perception that this administration represents one of the most troubling governments in Nigeria’s recent history,” he said.
Frank alleged that rather than strengthening accountability, the administration had created an atmosphere where corruption flourishes.
He further claimed that public officials accused of wrongdoing were being shielded instead of being held accountable, thereby weakening public trust in government institutions.
The former APC spokesman also criticised the 10th National Assembly, particularly Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing the legislature of failing to effectively discharge its constitutional oversight responsibilities.
According to him, the National Assembly is widely perceived as being too accommodating to the Executive instead of serving as an independent institution responsible for ensuring accountability.
Frank, who is the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, also urged foreign governments and development partners to exercise caution in approving fresh loans, grants and financial assistance to Nigeria.
He welcomed ongoing discussions in the United States Congress on reviewing assistance to Nigeria and called for stricter transparency and monitoring mechanisms to ensure public funds directly benefit Nigerians.
In one of his remarks, Frank drew a comparison between internet fraudsters and the government, alleging that critics believe the administration has failed to safeguard the nation’s commonwealth through prudent management of public resources.
He called on Nigerians to remain peaceful while demanding greater accountability from public office holders and urged them to support leaders committed to integrity, competence and responsible governance.
