Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to inaugurate campaign teams for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid in the FCT and Rivers State, saying he will personally lead the campaign machinery in both states.
Wike made the disclosure on Friday in Chikuku, Abuja, after inspecting the Phase Two dualisation of the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road.
He said political structures supporting Tinubu were already being mobilised across different platforms, while the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was also preparing for what he described as an aggressive campaign.
According to him, “For us who are supporting Mr President from different political platforms, we have put our machinery ready to fully kickstart.
“Very soon, I will inaugurate the campaign team for Tinubu in the FCT and Rivers State, which I will lead. All elements of the APC are ready, Mr President is ready, we are ready and you can see the enthusiasm.”
The FCT minister linked the expected support for Tinubu to the administration’s infrastructure projects, arguing that visible development would influence voters.
Wike said the projects being executed across the FCT were evidence of governance that could be presented to residents during the campaign.
“People are happy, and I don’t know who will contest against Mr President as far as this election is concerned. This is governance, and this is what people expect. It will translate directly into actual votes,” he said.
On allegations of possible electoral manipulation, Wike said the projects being delivered in the territory should instead be regarded as the basis on which the administration would seek public support.
“It is very obvious. Nobody will be able to claim rigging in the FCT. The ‘rigging’ is the projects we are delivering, making the people happy,” he said.
Wike also commended the contractor and engineers handling the Kuje-Gwagwalada project, assuring that funding would be made available to ensure its completion by December.
He expressed surprise at the level of development along the route, noting that it was his first visit to that section of the road.
“This is my first time getting to this side of the road, and I can see how highly populated this area is,” he said.
The minister said functional infrastructure remained central to good governance and public satisfaction, adding that the enthusiasm of residents around government projects was an indication of their expectations from those in authority.
“When the people are happy, those in authority are happy,” Wike said, while thanking President Tinubu for continued support for capital projects in the FCT.
