ABUJA — Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has confirmed that Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo will remain his running mate in the 2027 governorship election, declaring he has “no regrets” over his choice.
Yusuf made the declaration during a meeting with Federal Political Appointees of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor said his decision was based on Garo’s loyalty, competence and commitment to governance.
“I have no regrets for choosing Garo as my Deputy… he has proven to be the right choice so far. I want to confirm to you that I have every confidence in him,” Yusuf said.
He noted that the strong working relationship between both leaders has enhanced the administration’s ability to deliver development across Kano State.
According to the governor, Garo has remained a dependable partner, whose contributions have been critical to the achievements recorded by the government.
Yusuf said retaining the deputy governor on the 2027 ticket reflects a deliberate move to sustain stability, continuity and effective governance.
He also called on party leaders, political appointees and supporters to remain united as the administration prepares for the next general elections.
The announcement is expected to end speculation over the governor’s running mate ahead of 2027 and signals a continuity plan within the Kano State government.
