3.7 Million Nigerians Register as Independent National Electoral Commission Ends CVR Phase II, Opens Voters’ Claims Window

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded the second phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, recording a total of 3,748,704 completed registrations.

The commission, in its Week 14 update, said the figure comprises both online pre-registrations and in-person completions at designated centres across the country, reflecting sustained public participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A breakdown shows that 2,259,288 Nigerians completed their registration through the online pre-registration portal, while 1,489,416 finalised the process physically at registration centres. INEC, however, noted that the figures remain preliminary and subject to verification.

Following the conclusion of the registration phase, the commission announced the commencement of the display of the Register of Voters for Claims and Objections—an exercise aimed at ensuring the accuracy and credibility of the voter database.

According to INEC, the display will take place nationwide from April 29 to May 5, 2026, giving citizens the opportunity to verify their details and raise objections where necessary.

The commission urged all registrants in the second phase to participate actively by confirming their information and helping to identify irregularities, including duplicate entries, names of deceased persons and non-citizens.

INEC explained that the CVR is being conducted in phases, with the first phase held between August 18 and December 10, 2025, and the second phase running from January 5 to April 17, 2026.

It added that the timetable for the third phase would be announced in due course.

Reaffirming its commitment to credible elections, INEC described a clean and reliable voter register as fundamental to the conduct of free, fair and transparent polls in Nigeria.
