More than 100 diplomatic missions, alongside key international and domestic stakeholders, are set to converge on Abuja for a high-level conference on global security, trade and investment amid rising concerns over information warfare and geopolitical instability.
The summit, organised by the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN), will hold on May 20, 2026, at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, bringing together representatives from the European Union, ECOWAS, as well as top security agencies, policymakers, trade institutions and civil society groups.
Chairman of DICAN, Idehai Frederick, said the conference will focus on the growing threat of Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), a tactic increasingly deployed to distort narratives, destabilise international relations and disrupt global markets.
The event, themed “Information Warfare (FIMI): Strengthening Global Security, Trade, and Investment Through Collaborative Truth: Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media,” comes at a time of heightened global tension, particularly in the Gulf, where ongoing conflicts have triggered energy price volatility and raised concerns over the 2026 global trade outlook.
Frederick said the gathering would provide a platform for coordinated responses to disinformation, emphasising the need for “collaborative truth” in addressing modern security challenges.
According to him, discussions will centre on how diplomacy, intelligence and the media can jointly counter the spread of false information, especially state-sponsored narratives capable of escalating conflicts and destabilising markets.
Participants are also expected to explore strategies for restoring investor confidence by promoting transparency and safeguarding international trade routes from the disruptions caused by manipulated information.
The conference will further examine the role of diplomatic intelligence in distinguishing propaganda from verified facts, with a view to strengthening dialogue and supporting peaceful conflict resolution in volatile regions.
Organisers say the event underscores Nigeria’s growing role as a convening ground for critical conversations at the intersection of national security and global economic stability.
