The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged the Federal Government to issue a 90-day ultimatum to Nigeria’s security chiefs to eliminate terrorism or step down from office.
Speaking in a video shared on his social media platform on Tuesday, Adeboye expressed concern over the persistent insecurity across the country and called for greater accountability in the fight against terrorism.
The cleric said security chiefs should be given a clear mandate and timeline to tackle the menace, stressing that failure to achieve the objective within the stipulated period should attract consequences.
“If I were asked to make suggestions, I would say to the government: move fast and tell the security chiefs to get rid of these terrorists within 90 days or resign,” he said.
Adeboye also urged the authorities to go beyond targeting terrorists by identifying and prosecuting those who finance and support their activities, regardless of their status or influence.
According to him, lasting success in the fight against insecurity can only be achieved when both perpetrators and their sponsors are brought to justice.
The cleric recalled a similar directive reportedly issued by a former president to security chiefs during the height of the Boko Haram insurgency, noting that while the order initially spurred action, it was not fully enforced after the deadline elapsed.
He maintained that decisive leadership, strict accountability and sustained commitment are necessary to curb terrorism, banditry and kidnapping across the country.
Adeboye’s remarks come amid renewed concerns over rising insecurity in parts of Nigeria and growing calls for stronger measures to protect lives and property.
