The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has reaffirmed its commitment to creating a stable and investment-friendly regulatory environment for Nigeria’s gas sector, as stakeholders push for expanded access and infrastructure development nationwide.
This followed a courtesy visit by the Association of Local Distributors of Gas (ALDG), where discussions focused on strengthening the growth and sustainability of the country’s gas industry in line with the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas initiative.
Speaking during the engagement, the ALDG commended NMDPRA for its regulatory interventions aimed at improving gas utilisation across Nigeria. The association also expressed its readiness to support ongoing reforms to enhance energy access and affordability.

The group, however, highlighted operational challenges facing gas distributors and called for deeper collaboration with regulators to ensure improved availability and distribution efficiency across the country.
In response, the Authority Chief Executive, Malam Rabiu A. Umar, welcomed the engagement and assured stakeholders of continued regulatory support to boost investment, expand infrastructure, and improve operational efficiency in the midstream and downstream gas value chain.
He emphasized that sustained stakeholder engagement remains critical to achieving national energy security goals and unlocking the full potential of Nigeria’s gas resources.The meeting underscored growing cooperation between regulators and industry players as Nigeria intensifies efforts to expand gas utilization and strengthen its energy transition agenda.
