Katsina, Nigeria — The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, DIG Sulaiman Muhammad Abdul, has concluded a two-day operational tour of Katsina State with a strong directive to enhance security around schools.
The visit, carried out in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, focused on assessing the safety of educational institutions amid concerns over attacks targeting schools.
This was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer in Katsina State, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu.
According to the statement, the tour was aimed at evaluating the existing security architecture, threat levels, and safety measures, with a view to developing proactive strategies against violent crimes in schools.
As part of the exercise, the DIG visited the Police Children School and the Government Girls Technical and Commercial College in Charanchi Local Government Area.
During the inspections, Abdul assessed perimeter fencing, access control systems, and security posts, while also reviewing the deployment of police personnel in the schools.
He held separate meetings with school administrators to obtain firsthand information on security challenges facing the institutions.
The DIG emphasised the need for strict access control and urged school authorities to promptly report suspicious movements within and around their premises.
“This initiative is to guarantee a safe, secure, and conducive teaching and learning environment for both teachers and students,” he said.
He further directed the Katsina State Police Command to intensify patrols, strengthen intelligence gathering, and ensure high visibility of officers around schools.
The operational tour underscores renewed efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to safeguard educational institutions and prevent security breaches across the state.
