The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the interpretation of a recent Court of Appeal ruling by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing the electoral body of bias and acting under pressure from the government.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described INEC’s position as contradictory and inconsistent with the facts of the case.
The ADC alleged that the Commission had “caved to pressure” from a government it claimed was unsettled by the party’s growing political momentum, despite what it described as sustained efforts to weaken opposition parties and impose a one-party system.
“We reject INEC’s interpretation of the Court of Appeal ruling. INEC’s press statement is full of contradictions that fly in the face of both facts and reason,” the party said.
The opposition party further warned that INEC’s stance effectively places it on the side of the government against the Nigerian people, raising concerns about the neutrality of the electoral body.
It said it would soon publicly address the alleged inconsistencies in INEC’s position and outline its next line of action.
“We are currently reviewing our options, and we shall make these known soon,” the statement added.
While urging its members and supporters to remain calm and resolute, the ADC maintained that the unfolding political developments signal a broader struggle over Nigeria’s democratic future.
“Nigeria is rising. ADC is rising,” the party declared.
