Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has directed the immediate procurement of new surveillance drones and security equipment following the alleged disappearance of five state-owned drones.
The directive came after a series of high-level security meetings held over four days, where the governor reviewed the state’s security situation and strategies to combat rising threats.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor said the focus of his administration is to strengthen security capacity rather than dwell on past incidents.
“We are not interested in what has happened in the past. Our goal is to acquire new drones and other needed equipment and materials for our formal and informal security networks to combat crimes and banditry in this state,” Adeleke was quoted as saying.
The planned acquisition is aimed at boosting intelligence gathering, surveillance operations, and rapid response to criminal activities across the state.
Although details regarding the number of drones to be purchased and the cost were not disclosed, the move is seen as part of broader efforts to reinforce Osun State’s security architecture amid growing concerns over kidnapping and banditry.
Governor Adeleke also reassured residents of his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging citizens to support security agencies with timely information.
“I assure the good people of Osun that our government is committed to their safety and security. I urge the public to notify security agencies of any suspicious movement or individuals in their areas,” he added.
The development comes against the backdrop of rising insecurity in parts of the country, including recent abductions in neighbouring Oyo State, heightening the need for enhanced surveillance and coordinated security responses.
