The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, has pledged to strengthen public communication on government policies after receiving the Fellowship of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) in recognition of his contributions to strategic communication, ethical public engagement and national development.
Speaking after the conferment ceremony at his office in Abuja on Tuesday, Alake described the honour as a validation of the critical role of effective communication in governance and promised to deepen public awareness of government policies to foster an informed citizenry.
He said the recognition reinforces his commitment to transparency, accountability and sustained engagement with citizens, investors, host communities and other stakeholders in advancing the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the solid minerals sector.
“I appreciate the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria for acknowledging my enduring contributions to the communications profession and public service. This honour validates the important role of effective communication in public administration and strengthens our resolve to maintain openness, accountability and continuous engagement with all stakeholders,” he said.
Earlier, the Director-General of ARCON, Dr Olalekan Fadolapo, said the fellowship was in recognition of Alake’s distinguished career in journalism, public communication and public service, as well as his commitment to professionalism and excellence.
Fadolapo noted that the minister has effectively deployed strategic communication as a tool for driving reforms in Nigeria’s mining sector.
According to him, Alake has combined policy innovation with purposeful public engagement to reposition the solid minerals sector as a key driver of economic diversification since assuming office.
“Through transparent communication and sustained stakeholder engagement, the Ministry has deepened investor confidence, built public trust in ongoing reforms and amplified awareness of key policy initiatives, including the fight against illegal mining, mineral beneficiation, value addition and the attraction of responsible investments,” he said.
The ARCON Director-General also described Alake as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished journalists and media professionals, noting that before joining government, he built a reputation for professionalism, integrity and dedication to nation-building through decades of impactful journalism and strategic communications.
The fellowship, he added, reflects the council’s recognition of Alake’s enduring contributions to the communications profession and his role in promoting ethical public engagement in government.
