Be Good Ambassadors, IGP’s Wife Tells 420 Police School Graduates, Blames Parents For Rising Indiscipline

Wife of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Mrs. Mutiat Olufunmilola Disu, has charged the 420 graduating students of Police Secondary School (PSS), Minna, Niger State, to uphold discipline and be worthy ambassadors of the institution wherever they find themselves.

Mrs. Disu gave the charge during the 29th graduation and passing-out parade of the school’s 2025/2026 academic session, where she served as the Mother of the Day.

She urged the graduands to distinguish themselves through good character and integrity, expressing hope that they would grow into responsible citizens occupying strategic positions rather than becoming negative examples in society.

“I will be proud to hear that former students of Police Secondary School, Minna are known for discipline, integrity and excellence wherever they are found,” she said.

During the visit, the POWA President commissioned a staff quarters, water reservoir and the school’s guest house, and also laid the foundation for a new POWA facility in Minna.

She reaffirmed her commitment to improving the welfare of police personnel and their families while promoting quality education for children of police officers.

Meanwhile, the Director of Education, Force Education Office, Force Headquarters, Abuja, DCP Ibidapo Oludare Olubiyi, blamed what he described as poor parenting for the growing challenge of indiscipline among students in Police Secondary Schools across the country.

According to him, many parents now expect schools to do the job of raising their children after failing in their responsibilities at home.

He lamented that some parents were quick to criticise the school on social media instead of appreciating the efforts of teachers and management in moulding their children into responsible adults.

“Some students are difficult to correct, and some parents publish false information about the school on social media. This makes our work very difficult,” he said.

Olubiyi also expressed concern over the negative influence of social media on young people and urged parents to pay greater attention to the moral upbringing of their children.

He further announced that the school would no longer pay external examination fees on behalf of students because of the persistent failure of some parents to refund the money, a development he said had forced the institution to obtain loans to meet examination deadlines.

Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, represented by his Principal Private Secretary, Umar Emmanuel, commended the management and staff of the school for sustaining academic excellence over the past 29 years.

The governor announced cash rewards of ₦1 million for the overall best graduating student, Mohammed Abbas, ₦750,000 for the second-best student, Yahaya Faiza, and ₦500,000 for the third-best student, Nelson Precious.

He also urged the management of the school to present its most pressing needs to the Niger State Government for possible intervention while appreciating the Inspector-General of Police for strengthening security across the state.
