Panic swept through Asaba on Friday as a violent rainstorm unleashed chaos across the Delta State capital, leaving a trail of destruction that residents won’t forget in a hurry.
Ferocious winds and heavy rainfall tore through the city, toppling massive billboards, destroying luxury vehicles, and knocking down electricity poles, triggering fear, traffic gridlock, and looming power outages.
In one of the most shocking incidents, a giant billboard came crashing down on a car showroom, crushing several high-end vehicles — including Mercedes-Benz cars — beyond repair.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of confusion as multiple billboards collapsed across key areas of the city. Some blocked major roads, while others slammed into homes and businesses, causing extensive damage.
The storm didn’t stop there.
Power infrastructure took a major hit as electric poles were uprooted and brought down, sparking concerns over prolonged blackouts and serious safety risks for residents.
Flooding also worsened an already troubling situation along the Okpanam Road axis, where erosion and water overflow damaged sections of the road, making movement difficult for commuters.
Frustrated residents are now calling on the Delta State Government and emergency agencies to step in urgently with relief and repairs.
Despite the scale of destruction, no casualties have been officially confirmed as of the time of filing this report. However, authorities are still assessing the full extent of the damage.
For many in Asaba, it was a night of fear — and a stark reminder of nature’s fury.
