The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed the premises of two real estate firms in Abuja over failure to comply with directives issued to resolve consumer complaints.
The affected companies—Ochacho Group Worldwide, located in Life Camp, and Tibillion Construction Real Estate in Wuse 2—were shut down during an enforcement operation carried out by the Commission on Thursday.
Speaking during the exercise, FCCPC Deputy Director of Surveillance and Investigation, Mr. Marvin Nadah, said the action followed the companies’ refusal to comply with compliance notices issued under Section 154 of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA).
He explained that the Commission had earlier directed the firms to take corrective actions on complaints brought by consumers, including cases involving payment for properties that were not delivered and failure to refund affected clients.
“We issued compliance notices directing them to address the complaints before us, but they failed to comply. As a result, we have sealed their premises,” Nadah stated.
He noted that the law empowers the Commission to take such enforcement actions without prior court intervention in cases of non-compliance.
According to him, the move is part of ongoing efforts by the FCCPC to curb exploitative practices in the real estate sector and protect consumers from fraudulent activities.
The Commission warned that further actions, including possible prosecution, could be taken after a comprehensive review of the cases.
Nadah added that the sealed premises would only be reopened once the companies fully comply with the Commission’s directives.
He also advised consumers to exercise due diligence before entering property transactions, urging them to carefully review agreements and seek professional guidance where necessary.
The FCCPC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding consumer rights and ensuring accountability across Nigeria’s real estate sector.
