Tinubu Orders MDAs to Embrace Tech as 38 Ministries Go Paperless”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to embrace technology-driven processes as 38 ministries and extra-ministerial departments transition to a secure paperless workflow system.

The President made this known while declaring open the International Civil Service Conference 2026 in Abuja, signalling a major milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing civil service digital transformation.

Tinubu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, said the shift to end-to-end electronic workflow systems marks the end of “manual inefficiency” in public service operations.

He noted that the reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda are already delivering measurable outcomes, moving the civil service from policy ambition to tangible execution and impact.

“When we spoke of digitalisation in 2025, some may have considered it a distant ambition. Today, with 38 ministries operating fully paperless systems, Nigeria is building a public service that enables progress,” he said.

The President emphasised that digital governance is central to building a responsive, transparent and efficient bureaucracy capable of driving investment, innovation and inclusive economic growth.

He urged all MDAs to deepen digital adoption, stressing that public institutions must prioritise speed, accountability, data-driven decision-making and citizen-centred service delivery.

Tinubu also disclosed that the ongoing Personnel Audit and Skills Gap Analysis is nearing completion, aimed at identifying competency gaps and repositioning civil servants for modern governance demands.

He linked the reforms to broader national initiatives, including Project BRIDGE (Building Resilient Digital Infrastructure for Growth), designed to expand Nigeria’s digital infrastructure, attract investment and create jobs.

The President commended the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, for driving reforms under the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP) 2021–2025.

He also highlighted the integration of innovative tools such as Service-Wise GPT as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to leveraging technology for governance.

Tinubu called on stakeholders at the conference to ensure that reforms become institutionalised and irreversible, positioning the civil service as a catalyst for national development.
