The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has issued a public alert warning Nigerians about fraudulent individuals impersonating its Chief Executive, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, across multiple social media platforms.
In a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications and Media, Mr. Eniola Akinkuotu, the Commission disclosed that at least 15 fake accounts have been identified on X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok, all falsely claiming to represent the NUPRC Chief Executive.
The Commission clarified that Mrs. Eyesan maintains only one official social media presence—a verified LinkedIn account—and cautioned the public against engaging with any other accounts bearing her name.
According to NUPRC, the impersonators are using the fake profiles to defraud unsuspecting members of the public, prompting the Commission to report the matter to relevant authorities for investigation and necessary action.
“The unscrupulous individuals impersonating the Commission Chief Executive are warned to desist immediately,” the statement read, adding that anyone who interacts with such fake accounts does so at their own risk.
The Commission urged the public to remain vigilant and to verify information through official channels, including its website, before engaging in any transactions or communications.
NUPRC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and public protection, stressing that it does not conduct official business through unverified or unofficial social media accounts.
The warning comes amid rising concerns over digital impersonation and online scams targeting public officials and institutions in Nigeria.
