Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have rescued five kidnapped victims and neutralized two suspected kidnappers during a joint security operation in the Byazhin area of Abuja.
The operation, personally led by the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, was carried out on June 9, 2026, following recent kidnapping incidents in the Paze community.
According to the Command, the rescue mission involved a coordinated effort between the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Kubwa Area Command, as well as local hunters and vigilante groups.
During the late-night clearance operation, security operatives engaged the suspected kidnappers in a gun duel, resulting in the neutralization of two suspects and the arrest of two others identified as Icheh Mohammadu and Abubakar Usman. Several other members of the gang reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.
The police also recovered two AK-47 rifles and magazines during the operation.
Authorities said sustained pressure from the joint team forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives, leading to the successful rescue of all five victims without injuries.
The rescued individuals have been taken to a medical facility for evaluation, while efforts are underway to reunite them with their families.
The FCT Police Command disclosed that search operations are ongoing across surrounding communities to apprehend fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network.
The Commissioner of Police commended the operatives and local security volunteers for their bravery and professionalism, reiterating the Command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and violent crimes within the Federal Capital Territory.
The police also called on hospitals and healthcare providers to report any individuals presenting gunshot wounds under suspicious circumstances, as well as urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through designated emergency lines.
