President Bola Tinubu has applauded the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) for expanding farmers’ access to fertiliser and driving the Federal Government’s food security agenda under the Renewed Hope programme.
Tinubu, in a statement issued by the State House on Thursday, praised NADF for successfully implementing the Renewed Hope Farm Input Support Programme (RH-FISP), describing it as a game-changer for smallholder farmers across Nigeria.
The President said while the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative (PFI), now operating under the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), has strengthened fertiliser production and procurement, NADF has ensured that the products reach the farmers who need them most.
“Securing inputs and keeping blending plants active is only the first step. The real test is last-mile access — getting fertiliser to the farmers who need it, when they need it,” Tinubu said.
He disclosed that through RH-FISP, NADF is currently distributing 515,720 bags of locally-produced fertiliser to 128,930 smallholder farmers in 25 states and the Federal Capital Territory during the current planting season.
According to the President, the intervention is helping to boost productivity, improve yields and strengthen food production nationwide.
Tinubu described the programme as clear evidence that his administration is delivering on its promise to make food security a major pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“When we came into office, we made a promise to Nigerians that food security would be a major pillar of our Renewed Hope Agenda. We promised to support our farmers, strengthen local production, reduce dependence on imports and build an agricultural system strong enough to withstand shocks from beyond our borders. That promise is being kept,” he stated.
The fertiliser support programme is being coordinated by the Executive Secretary of NADF, Muhammad Abu Ibrahim, as part of broader efforts to support smallholder farmers and transform the agricultural sector.
Beyond fertiliser distribution, Tinubu also commended NADF for promoting modern farming practices through digital extension services, harmonised fertiliser application guidelines and targeted support for key crops such as rice, maize, cassava and soybean.
He noted that under the leadership of Mohammed A. Ibrahim, the agency has continued to forge strategic partnerships and implement programmes aimed at improving farmers’ access to critical inputs and strengthening agricultural productivity.
The President said government interventions across the fertiliser value chain have helped sustain local production, improve affordability and cushion the impact of rising global input costs.
The commendation comes as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to strengthen agricultural value chains, increase local food production and protect the sector from global supply disruptions.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to agricultural transformation, Tinubu pledged continued support for initiatives that enhance productivity and improve livelihoods in rural communities.
“Our administration will not relent in its efforts to strengthen Nigerian agriculture and protect food security for every Nigerian. This is the meaning of promise made, promise kept.
“We will continue to take practical steps that improve productivity, support our farmers and secure our nation’s food future,” the President said.
Tinubu’s endorsement highlights NADF’s growing role in the Federal Government’s drive to boost agricultural output, enhance food security and promote sustainable rural development across the country.
