ABUJA — The Dangote Refinery operated above full capacity in May 2026, averaging 101.25 per cent utilisation, as it strengthened domestic fuel supply amid continued shutdown of Nigeria’s state-owned refineries.
Data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) showed the refinery produced 44.7 million litres per day (ML/D) of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 24.5 ML/D of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO/diesel), and 21.9 ML/D of Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) during the month.
Of the total output, 41.5 ML/D of PMS and 18.2 ML/D of AGO were supplied to the domestic market, supporting fuel availability across the country.
The refinery also exported 6.5 ML/D of diesel and 17.5 ML/D of aviation fuel, highlighting its role in regional petroleum product supply.
The development comes as the Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna refineries remained shut throughout May, leaving Dangote Refinery and modular refineries as key sources of refined products.
NMDPRA said modular refineries contributed an average of 0.648 ML/D of AGO during the period.
The agency said increased output from Dangote Refinery and modular operators has helped improve overall product supply and reduce dependence on imports.
