Guard This Road Like Your Own, Tinubu Tells Kwali Communities

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged residents of Gomani, Dafa and Yangoji communities in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to protect the newly commissioned Gomani–Dafa–Yangoji Road from vandalism and encroachment, declaring that the era of abandoned government projects is over.

Tinubu, who was represented by Senate President, , gave the charge on Tuesday while inaugurating the road, saying the responsibility of preserving the infrastructure now rests with the people.

“To the royal fathers, community leaders, our farmers, our traders and the youths of Gomani, Dafa and Yangoji, this road is now yours. Guard it jealously.

“Do not allow encroachment on the rights of way. Keep the drains clear of filth and report any attempt to vandalise any section of this road. Use it to grow your farms, use it to grow your businesses and your children’s future will be assured. Government has done its part. The next part now belongs to you, the people,” he said.

The President assured Nigerians that his administration would no longer tolerate abandoned projects.

“Let me say this very plainly, the era of starting projects only to abandon them is over. We will fund, we will finish and we will maintain the infrastructure we are building. Every single naira of public funds must translate into value for Nigerians,” he stated.

Tinubu said the road would improve the movement of farm produce, reduce post-harvest losses and open up Gomani, Dafa and Yangoji to greater economic opportunities.

Earlier, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, , said the project fulfilled President Tinubu’s directive that development should spread beyond the city centre to rural communities.

He disclosed that the road, awarded in November 2025, was completed in less than 12 months because of the commitment of the FCT Administration and the contractor.

“This road was awarded in November last year. Today is June 30, 2026. It was completed before 12 months. That tells you this work is not rocket science. It is commitment by this administration and commitment by the contractor,” Wike said.

The minister praised the contractor for delivering the project on schedule and announced that the same company would also complete the Gbazango, popularly known as Arab Road, in Kubwa, which is billed for commissioning on July 17.

Wike recalled that President Tinubu had directed members of the FCT Administration to hold stakeholders’ meetings across the six area councils to enable residents determine the projects most beneficial to their communities.

According to him, the traditional ruler of Kwali and community leaders identified the A2–Pai, Pai–Gomani and Gomani–Dafa–Yangoji roads as priority projects, adding that the administration had fulfilled its promise to construct the entire corridor.

He also commended the traditional rulers for supporting the contractor throughout the construction period, noting that their commitment to community development contributed immensely to the successful completion of the project.

The road is one of the projects being inaugurated during the ongoing 31-day commissioning of infrastructure executed by the FCT Administration under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
