Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has alleged that some politicians are behind the recent abduction of students in Oyo State, warning that he may expose their identities if the attacks continue.
Igboho made the claim while addressing newly elected leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) at his residence in Ibadan.
According to him, certain politicians are providing financial and logistical support to criminal elements terrorising communities and carrying out kidnappings.
“I know the politicians behind these kidnappers. They are the ones supplying them with money and ammunition. If they do not stop, I will mention their names publicly,” he declared.
The activist also claimed he volunteered to help rescue the abducted pupils in Oriire Local Government Area but was prevented from doing so by the Oyo State Government.
“If I am allowed to move into their hideouts, they will flee. They are human beings and can be dislodged. I offered to help, but I was told not to,” he said.
Igboho maintained that he never demanded money from the state government to participate in rescue efforts, insisting his interest was solely to secure the release of the victims.
He further revealed that after obtaining federal approval for his proposed security outfit, Iru Ekun Security Network, he was cautioned against carrying out any independent operation.
The activist argued that local security groups should be empowered to flush out criminals hiding in forests across the South-West.
His comments come amid growing public concern over insecurity following the abduction of dozens of pupils and teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Security agencies have continued efforts to rescue the victims and track down those responsible for the attack.
