KANO, Nigeria — Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has called on the National Leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to prioritise the interest of the state over personal considerations and support ongoing efforts aimed at peace and development.
Speaking on Friday during the annual Hawan Nassarawa celebration by the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, Governor Yusuf stressed the need for unity among political stakeholders in the state.
“I am calling on him to look at Kano first, not personal interests, and join the movement for peace and a better Kano,” Yusuf said. “This administration is focused on building a stable and prosperous state for everyone.”
Call for Political Reconciliation
The governor noted that recent reconciliation efforts among political leaders across the country should serve as a model for Kano politics, adding that several leaders who previously disagreed have since resolved their differences.
“Even governors who had disagreements with their deputies reconciled publicly on that day,” he said, urging stakeholders to embrace dialogue and cooperation.
Security, Stability and Cultural Celebrations
Governor Yusuf also defended the suspension of the Hawan Daushe celebration, explaining that the decision was taken to prevent potential violence and protect lives.
“We chose peace over bloodshed,” he said, adding that his administration remains committed to stability in the state.
He also assured that plans were underway to restore a grand Durbar celebration in Kano once security conditions improve.
Governance and Development Priorities
The governor warned against internal divisions within his administration, saying that while most officials are performing well, a few individuals were allegedly creating tensions.
“Most of our advisers are doing well, but a few are only interested in causing problems,” he said.
Yusuf also highlighted ongoing infrastructure efforts, including major investments in water supply projects such as the rehabilitation of the Tamburawa and Challawa facilities.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving access to clean water, strengthening governance, and fostering unity across Kano State.
