Key Nigerian Delegation Welcomes Obasanjo at African Aviation Expo in Lomé

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, led a high-level delegation to welcome former President Olusegun Obasanjo at the African Air Transport Convention and Expo 2026 in Lomé, Togo.

The engagement took place during the ongoing continental aviation summit, which brings together key policymakers, aviation regulators, and industry stakeholders from across Africa.

According to details from the event, Keyamo, who also serves as African Development Bank (AfDB) Champion for Africa’s $7 billion Aviation Transformation Programme, received the former Nigerian President on behalf of the Nigerian delegation.

The delegation included senior figures in Nigeria’s aviation sector and continental aviation institutions. Among them were Adefunke Adeyemi, Secretary of the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC); Captain Edward Boyo, SAATM Ambassador for the Western Region; and Captain Chris Najomo, Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). Also present was the Vice Chancellor of the African Aviation and Aerospace University.

The African Air Transport Convention and Expo serves as a platform for discussions on aviation policy, infrastructure development, air connectivity, and investment opportunities across the continent.

Nigeria’s participation at the event reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen its role within Africa’s aviation ecosystem, particularly under initiatives such as the Single Africa Air Transport Market (SAATM), which aims to improve intra-African air connectivity and reduce travel barriers across member states.

The presence of former President Obasanjo at the event highlights continued engagement by senior African statesmen in discussions around continental integration and infrastructure development.

Officials noted that the Nigerian delegation’s participation aligns with broader regional efforts to modernize aviation systems, enhance regulatory cooperation, and attract investment into the sector.

The event in Lomé continues with technical sessions and policy discussions focused on aviation safety, financing, digital transformation, and sustainability in air transport across Africa.

Nigeria’s participation at the expo underscores its strategic interest in shaping the future of African aviation through collaboration, policy alignment, and investment-driven reforms.
