ABUJA — Nigeria has congratulated the Republic of Congo on its 66th National Day Anniversary, while identifying trade, energy, mining, agriculture and infrastructure as key areas for strengthening bilateral economic relations.
The Federal Government conveyed the message in a statement issued on Saturday, August 15, 2026, by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.
Congo is marking its 66th National Day on August 15, commemorating its attainment of independence on the same date in 1960. Nigeria joined the Congolese government and people in celebrating the occasion, recognising their resilience and progress in national development.
Nigeria said its relations with Congo are anchored on mutual respect, African solidarity, shared values and common interests, adding that both countries remain committed to multilateralism and the advancement of African unity and integration.
The Federal Government particularly highlighted opportunities to expand bilateral economic cooperation, with trade and investment, energy, agriculture, infrastructure, transportation, mining and manufacturing identified as priority areas.
According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, greater engagement between the private sectors of both countries could help drive investment, technology transfer and employment creation, while facilitating the movement of goods, services and expertise.
Nigeria also reaffirmed its appreciation for Congo’s contributions to regional peace, stability and African diplomacy.
“Nigeria remains committed to working closely with Congo and other African partners in promoting dialogue, mediation and African-led approaches to conflict resolution,” the statement said.
The government further stressed the importance of strengthening people-to-people relations through cooperation in education, culture, tourism, sports, youth development and professional exchanges.
It said stronger cooperation in these areas would deepen mutual understanding and reinforce the longstanding friendship between the peoples of Nigeria and Congo.
Nigeria and Congo also share common interests in advancing the objectives of the African Union and strengthening continental integration.
The Federal Government said it welcomed greater collaboration with Congo on sustainable development, value addition, technology transfer, employment creation and regional economic integration.
Nigeria further reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with Congo through the African Union and other regional and international organisations.
“As Congo marks this important anniversary, Nigeria recognises the resilience and contributions of successive generations of Congolese to national development and renews its commitment to a peaceful, prosperous and stronger Africa,” the ministry said.
The Federal Government said it looked forward to working closely with the Government of the Republic of Congo to expand bilateral cooperation and address issues of mutual interest at the continental and global levels.
Nigeria concluded its message by extending its “warmest congratulations” to the Government and people of Congo and wishing the country continued peace, stability, prosperity and sustainable development.
