Nigeria Envoy Meets Bio in Freetown, Presents Credentials

ABUJA — Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Ambassador Ayo Luther Ogbomode, mni, has presented her Letters of Credence to President Julius Maada Bio at the State House, Freetown, formally commencing her diplomatic assignment.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed this in Press Release No. MFA/PR/2026/135, signed by its Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, noting that the ceremony underscores Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and regional cooperation.

During a meeting after the ceremony, the envoy conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s goodwill and reaffirmed Nigeria’s resolve to deepen ties anchored on longstanding friendship and mutual respect.

She also congratulated President Bio on his emergence as Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, expressing confidence in his leadership.

“Under your stewardship, ECOWAS will continue to advance democratic governance, collective security and prosperity across West Africa,” she said.

President Bio welcomed the envoy and appreciated Nigeria’s continued support, reaffirming Sierra Leone’s commitment to expanding cooperation in trade, investment, education and security.

“As Chairman of ECOWAS, I look forward to working closely with Nigeria in advancing regional stability and economic growth,” he said.

He also acknowledged Nigeria’s role during Sierra Leone’s civil war, noting the country remains grateful for its sacrifices in restoring peace.
