“Nigeria Needs Unity, Sacrifice to Progress” — SEC DG Agama Tells Citizens in Eid Message
Abuja, Nigeria – The Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Dr. Emomotimi Agama, has urged Nigerians to embrace unity, sacrifice, and faith as the country marks the 2026 Eid al-Adha celebration.
Delivering his Eid goodwill message, Agama congratulated Muslim faithful across Nigeria and called on citizens to reflect on the deeper meaning of the Festival of Sacrifice, emphasizing its relevance to national development and social harmony.
He said Eid al-Adha, which honours the obedience and devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), offers lessons that extend beyond religion, highlighting the importance of selflessness, discipline, and commitment to a higher purpose.
According to him, the spirit of sacrifice demonstrated during the celebration should inspire Nigerians to prioritise collective progress over personal interests, especially at a time when unity is critical to national growth.
Agama encouraged acts of compassion and generosity during the festive period, urging Nigerians to support vulnerable members of society and strengthen communal bonds through kindness and shared responsibility.
He noted that values such as empathy, solidarity, and giving are essential for building a stable and inclusive nation, adding that these principles should guide both individual conduct and public institutions.
The SEC chief also drew a connection between the lessons of Eid and the country’s economic aspirations, stating that building a resilient capital market requires trust, cooperation, and long-term commitment from all stakeholders.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s resolve to deepen transparency, enhance investor confidence, and create a fair and inclusive financial system that supports sustainable growth.
Agama further offered prayers for Nigerian pilgrims returning from the Hajj in Makkah, wishing them safe journeys and acceptance of their acts of worship.
He concluded by expressing hope for a peaceful and prosperous future for the nation, urging Nigerians to remain steadfast in their shared commitment to progress.
