Nigerian opposition party sets presidential form at N100 million for 2027 race

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The African Democratic Congress (ADC), one of Nigeria’s opposition parties, has unveiled its timetable for primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections – with a presidential nomination form priced at N100 million (approximately $65,000).

The party announced Sunday that its governorship nomination form will cost N50 million ($32,500), while Senate forms are set at N20 million ($13,000), House of Representatives at N10 million ($6,500), and State House of Assembly at N3 million ($1,950).

In a statement by National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the timetable reflects its “commitment to internal democracy, orderliness, and full compliance with electoral guidelines.”

Discounted rates for youth, women, and persons with disabilities

The party has introduced concessional pricing: a 50% discount for youths and a 25% discount for women and persons with disabilities.

Key dates in the ADC primary calendar:

· Application form collection: April 1 – May 4, 2026

· Nomination form sales: May 5 – May 10, 2026

· Submission of completed forms: May 11 – May 13, 2026

· Aspirant screening: May 14 – May 15, 2026

· Primary elections: Begin May 21, 2026 (State Assembly, Reps, Senate at ward level)

· Governorship primaries: May 22, 2026

· Presidential primary: May 25, 2026

· Special National Convention: May 27, 2026

The ADC called on members and aspirants to adhere strictly to the schedule, positioning itself as “the primary platform for Nigerians seeking competent, accountable, and people-focused leadership in 2027.”

The party’s presidential nomination fee is significantly lower than those of Nigeria’s major political parties – the ruling APC and main opposition PDP – which have historically priced their forms at N100 million or higher as well, though the ADC’s governorship fee of N50 million stands near the upper range for smaller parties.
