No Fault on Our Network,’ TCN Counters AEDC Over Lokoja Power Outage

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has dismissed claims by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) linking ongoing power outages in parts of Kogi State to a fault on its transmission network, insisting that its infrastructure in the Lokoja axis remains fully operational.

“TCN states unequivocally that all feeders at the Lokoja Transmission Substation serving the affected areas are fully operational. As of the time of this statement, there is no outage, fault, or scheduled maintenance on any of our transmission infrastructure in the Lokoja axis,” the company said.

The rebuttal followed a public notice issued by AEDC on May 5, 2026, which attributed electricity disruptions in Zango, Shetima, Apansede, Phase I, Phase II, Crown Estate and neighbouring communities to a technical fault on TCN’s network.

However, TCN, in a statement signed by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, maintained that bulk power was being transmitted to AEDC at the required capacity for onward distribution to consumers.

“The network in the region remains stable, and we are transmitting bulk power to AEDC as required,” the statement added.

The company firmly distanced itself from the outage, rejecting any suggestion that its facilities were responsible for the disruption being experienced by residents in the affected areas.

TCN also cautioned electricity sector operators against issuing what it described as inaccurate or unverified claims, warning that such actions could erode public trust in the power sector.

“Publishing inaccurate or unverified claims not only misrepresents the facts but risks undermining public confidence in the broader electricity value chain,” the company stated.

While reaffirming its commitment to transparency and collaboration, TCN said it would continue to work with stakeholders to improve electricity supply nationwide, urging greater diligence in attributing faults within the sector.

The development highlights ongoing coordination challenges within Nigeria’s power value chain, where generation, transmission and distribution responsibilities are handled by separate entities, often leading to disputes over the source of service disruptions.
