Kano — The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) Northwest Stakeholders Forum has threatened to institute legal action against former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, over allegations of interference in the party’s internal processes.
The forum accused Kwankwaso of being linked to the purchase of nomination forms for all 69 elective positions under the PRP platform by an individual allegedly not registered as a party member.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat in Kano, the forum’s chairman, Abdulkadir Musa, described the development as a serious threat to internal democracy.
“It has been confirmed that nomination forms for all the 69 elective positions under the platform of the PRP have been purchased by one individual who is not even a member of our party,” Musa said.
He alleged that the move was aimed at taking control of the party structure and sidelining legitimate members seeking to contest elective positions, including governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly seats.
Musa further described the situation as “political robbery,” warning that it could trigger confusion and disputes within the electoral process if not addressed.
“We appeal to Senator Kwankwaso to allow political parties to operate independently and democratically. The PRP should be spared from what we consider a deliberate attempt to interfere with its internal affairs,” he added.
The forum maintained that the party already has credible aspirants who emerged through consensus, stressing that their rights must be protected.
It warned that failure to halt the alleged interference would leave the party with no option but to seek legal redress.
“Should this continue, legal action will be our only option in defending the integrity and independence of our party,” Musa stated.
The group also claimed that similar incidents have been observed in other political parties, cautioning that such practices could undermine Nigeria’s democratic process.
As of the time of filing this report, Senator Kwankwaso has not publicly responded to the allegations.
