Senate Salutes Tinubu, Security Forces Over Hostages’ Rescue, Honours Fallen Heroes

ABUJA – The Senate on Tuesday applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigeria’s security agencies for the successful rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, while paying glowing tribute to security personnel who lost their lives during the operation.

The upper chamber described the rescue of the victims from Orire Local Government Area after more than 50 days in captivity as a major victory against kidnapping and a testament to the growing strength of the nation’s security architecture.

The commendation followed the adoption of a motion sponsored by the Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, who said the intelligence-led operation showcased the professionalism, courage and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces and other security agencies.

“The successful rescue operation demonstrated the increasing operational effectiveness, professionalism and tactical superiority of the Nigerian Armed Forces and the nation’s security architecture,” the Senate stated.

Lawmakers noted that the abduction highlighted the spread of kidnapping into parts of the South-West, warning that criminal gangs now pose a threat beyond the country’s traditional flashpoints.

The Senate praised President Tinubu for directing security agencies to deploy every available resource to secure the freedom of the victims.

The lawmakers also honoured security personnel who paid the supreme price during the rescue mission, including Lt. F.A. Isaac of the Nigerian Army, Private Silas Musa and Sgt. Abena John Jerome of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the Senate, the fallen officers displayed exceptional courage, patriotism and selfless service in defending innocent Nigerians.

The chamber equally recognised Lance Corporal Adamu Hussain, who sustained injuries during the operation, and urged the Federal Government to ensure he receives quality medical care and adequate welfare support.

The Senate congratulated the rescued pupils, teachers and their families on their freedom, while sympathising with the family of a teacher who died while in captivity.

It further commended the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, the National Security Adviser, the Inspector-General of Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and all officers who participated in the successful operation.

The lawmakers, however, urged the Federal Government to sustain the offensive against kidnappers, terrorists, bandits and other criminal groups terrorising communities across the country.

They also called for increased investment in intelligence gathering, surveillance technology, logistics, modern equipment and improved welfare for security personnel.

The Senate appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information to help combat crime and insecurity.

Finally, the Clerk of the National Assembly was directed to forward copies of the Senate’s resolution to President Tinubu and top security officials as a formal expression of appreciation for the successful rescue operation.
