TCN, NSCDC Intensify Crackdown on Illegal Power Line Encroachment

Osogbo — The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Osogbo Region, in collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has intensified enforcement operations against illegal encroachments within its transmission line Right of Way (RoW) corridors in Osun State.

This was disclosed in a press release signed by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs, TCN, on May 14, 2026.

The operation, led by Engr. Gbenga Akeju, targeted unlawful structures and businesses built beneath critical 330kV and 132kV transmission lines, in violation of the required safety clearances of 25 metres for 330kV lines and 15 metres for 132kV lines.

The affected corridors include Osogbo–Ikeja West, Osogbo–Ayede, and Osogbo–Ede transmission lines.

During the exercise, some violators were arrested while others signed formal undertakings to vacate the prohibited areas within the stipulated time.

Engr. Gbenga Akeju stressed that such illegal activities pose grave dangers to public safety and reliable power supply.

“Such activities endanger public safety and power supply,” he warned, noting that the Right of Way corridors are vital for protecting critical infrastructure and communities from hazards such as electrocution, fire outbreaks, and power outages.

He commended the NSCDC for its continued support and assured that similar enforcement and sensitisation campaigns will persist across the region to ensure full compliance.

The latest crackdown reflects TCN’s determination to safeguard Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure from growing threats of illegal settlements and commercial activities.
