ABUJA, Nigeria — The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored power on the Benin–Omotosho 330kV transmission line, ending a week-long outage that affected electricity supply across parts of southern Nigeria.
In a statement signed by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, TCN confirmed that the line was successfully restored at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, following intensive repair works.
The outage, which began on June 25, was caused by the detachment of conductors along the high-voltage line, disrupting bulk power transmission to distribution companies within the affected corridor.
TCN said its engineers promptly undertook restringing and maintenance of the damaged sections to bring the line back into operation.
“With the line now back in service, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Eko Electricity Distribution Plc and Ikeja Electric will be able to off-take more power for supply to their customers,” the company said.
The restoration is expected to improve electricity supply in franchise areas covered by the three distribution companies, including parts of Edo, Delta, Lagos and Ogun states.
TCN apologised to electricity consumers for the disruption caused by the outage and thanked stakeholders for their patience during the repair period.
The Benin–Omotosho 330kV transmission line is a critical infrastructure within Nigeria’s national grid, playing a key role in bulk power delivery to major load centres in the southern region.
