Tinubu Appoints Olanrewaju-Smart as House Liaison Adviser

ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr. Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart as Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives), a move aimed at strengthening coordination between the Presidency and the Green Chamber.

The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was announced on Sunday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Olanrewaju-Smart replaces Hon. Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who resigned to pursue elective office in his home state.

According to the Presidency, the appointment underscores Tinubu’s commitment to improving executive-legislative relations as the administration pushes forward its policy and reform agenda.

“He will deploy his experience, intellect, and commitment to strengthening legislative coordination and relations between the Presidency, MDAs and the House of Representatives,” the President said.

At 40, Olanrewaju-Smart brings years of experience in legislative administration and public policy. He holds a PhD in Educational Management from Lead City University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University, where he was an Edward Mason Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School.

His career spans key roles within the National Assembly, including serving as Research and Media Assistant to House leadership during the Seventh and Eighth Assemblies, and later as Special Adviser, Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff to the Speaker in the Ninth and Tenth Assemblies.

He joined the Presidency in October 2023 as Senior Special Assistant on Intergovernmental Affairs, where he coordinated engagements between the federal government and other tiers of government.

The Presidency noted that Olanrewaju-Smart has also contributed to major legislative initiatives through policy research, including work supporting the Interest-Free Student Loan Act.

In his new role, he will serve as the principal liaison between the Presidency and the House of Representatives, facilitating collaboration on legislative priorities and government policies.
