The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a scathing attack on Governor Seyi Makinde, accusing him of abandoning governance to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued in Ibadan on Thursday by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the opposition party alleged that the governor had shifted focus from addressing pressing challenges in the state to engaging in internal battles within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The APC claimed that the development has worsened insecurity, poor waste management and rising incidents of road accidents across the state, insisting that these issues require urgent government attention.
The party further alleged that Makinde was expending state resources in a bid to control the PDP at the national level, describing the move as being at the expense of the people of Oyo State.
“When Gov. Makinde won his second term, many expected him to concentrate on governance, but he has instead devoted more time to the crisis within the PDP,” the statement said.
It warned that any attempt by the governor to pursue higher political office beyond his tenure could have negative consequences, adding that the current challenges within the PDP were partly caused by key actors within the party.
The APC also cited a recent road accident in Ibadan, which reportedly claimed several lives, accusing the governor of prioritising political meetings shortly after the incident instead of addressing public concerns.
According to the opposition party, residents were left grieving while government attention was allegedly focused on political calculations and activities linked to future elections.
The statement also criticised the state government over what it described as “reckless spending,” including the procurement of vehicles for council officials, amid claims of deteriorating public infrastructure.
It further faulted the administration’s response to economic pressures, arguing that the government had failed to take proactive measures to cushion the effects of global developments on the local economy.
The APC maintained that public institutions, including hospitals and schools, were in decline, while security challenges persist across the state.
However, the party’s claims had not been officially responded to by the Oyo State Government as of the time of filing this report.
