2027: Abbas Clinches APC Ticket Unopposed In Zaria Reps Primary

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has emerged unopposed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Zaria Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abbas secured the party’s ticket through an affirmation exercise conducted across the 13 electoral wards of the constituency on Saturday in Kaduna State.

The exercise, which held simultaneously in Kwarbai A, Kwarbai B, Limancin-Kona, Unguwar Fatika, Unguwar Juma, Dutsen Abba, Gyallesu, Kufena, Dambo, Wuchichiri, Tudun Wada, Tukur-Tukur and Kaura wards, witnessed massive turnout of party members, stakeholders and supporters.

The Speaker, who has represented Zaria Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives since 2011, was the only aspirant cleared by the APC to contest the primary election.

Speaking during the exercise at Kwarbai B Ward, Abbas’ polling unit, party officials described the process as peaceful, transparent and orderly.

The APC Secretary in the ward, Nafiu Sabo, disclosed that although the ward has over 10,000 registered party members, 220 accredited delegates participated in the affirmation process.

Also speaking, the Ward Returning Officer, Malam Iliyasu Muhammad Balarabe, said Abbas fulfilled all conditions stipulated by the party, including the purchase of nomination forms and successful screening.

Following the collation of results from the 13 wards, the APC Returning Officer for Zaria Federal Constituency, Dr. Hamisu Ibrahim Kubau, officially declared Abbas winner after polling 1,376 affirmed votes.

“There is only one aspirant who bought the form, was screened and cleared by the APC for the Zaria Federal Constituency primary, and that is Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas,” Kubau stated.

He added that the affirmation exercise was conducted in the presence of party officials and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Chairman of the APC House of Representatives Primary Elections Committee in Kaduna State, Yakubu Oseni, described the outcome as a reflection of Abbas’ popularity and widespread acceptance among constituents.

Oseni said the Speaker had continued to demonstrate quality leadership and responsiveness to the needs of the people.

A breakdown of the results showed that Kwarbai B Ward recorded the highest number of affirmed votes with 220, while Dutsen Abba followed with 100 votes. Other wards recorded between 92 and 98 votes each.

Speaking after his declaration, Abbas thanked APC members and supporters for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to sustain effective representation for the constituency.

“My best days as your representative are ahead,” the Speaker assured.

He also urged party faithful to remain united and mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
