Shanghai, China – SAIC Motor has become the first Chinese automobile manufacturer to surpass 100 million vehicles in cumulative production and sales, marking a historic milestone that places the company among the world’s most exclusive group of global carmakers.
The achievement was confirmed on May 28, 2026, during a “Global 100 Millionth Vehicle Delivery Ceremony” held in Shanghai’s North Bund district, with simultaneous delivery events taking place across China and international markets.
The landmark 100 millionth vehicle was an IM LS9 Hyper, a premium extended-range electric SUV from SAIC’s intelligent electric brand Zhiji Auto (IM Motors), delivered to Momenta CEO Cao Xudong.
With this milestone, SAIC Motor becomes the eighth automobile group globally to enter the “100 million vehicle club,” joining leading manufacturers from the United States, Japan, Germany, and South Korea.
Founded in 1955, SAIC’s journey spans more than seven decades, evolving from early domestic manufacturing efforts into a global automotive powerhouse with a strong focus on electrification, smart mobility, and international expansion.
The company said the milestone reflects its transformation from a traditional automaker into a technology-driven mobility group, with sustained investment in innovation, research, and global partnerships.
SAIC’s recent performance has been driven by strong sales momentum. Between January and April 2026, the group sold 1.302 million vehicles, maintaining its position as China’s top-selling automaker over four consecutive months.
Of that total, 910,000 units came from its own brands, while new energy vehicles accounted for 412,000 units. Overseas sales also surged to 459,000 units, representing a year-on-year increase of 50.2 percent.
Its brand portfolio includes Roewe, MG, and Zhiji (IM), with growing influence in both passenger and commercial vehicle segments, particularly in electric and intelligent mobility markets.
Industry analysts say SAIC’s milestone underscores China’s rapid rise from a manufacturing base to a global automotive innovation hub, driven by advances in electric vehicles and smart driving technologies.
The company described the achievement not as an endpoint but as a new beginning, signaling further expansion into global markets and continued development of next-generation mobility solutions.
