Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has accused the governors of Imo and Kwara states, Hope Uzodinma and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, of turning against him despite the political support he said he gave them in the past.
Wike, who spoke during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday, said the two governors had failed to reciprocate the support he extended to them and were now allegedly working against him.
The former Rivers State governor particularly singled out AbdulRazaq, accusing the Kwara State governor of spearheading a campaign against him.
“Take, for example, Kwara, he has been the one championing this campaign against me everywhere. Yes, I have confronted him too. I don’t talk about what I cannot defend,” Wike said.
According to the minister, the Kwara governor had accused him of supporting political candidates opposed to those preferred by the governor in the state.
Wike, however, argued that AbdulRazaq should appreciate his role in accommodating aggrieved All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders who defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), instead of joining the political coalition against President Bola Tinubu.
The FCT minister also spoke about his strained political relationship with Imo State Governor Uzodinma, saying the governor knew the level of political support he had received from him.
“Governor Hope, he knows the support I give to him,” Wike said.
Although he did not give details of the alleged support, Wike suggested that the governor had failed to reciprocate his political goodwill.
The minister, however, insisted that his disagreements with the governors would not distract him from his commitment to the re-election of President Tinubu.
Wike said his political objective ahead of the 2027 general elections remained clear and had never been hidden from Nigerians.
“Any Nigerian who knows me knows that I have never hidden my intention,” he said.
He challenged those accusing him of working against APC governors to state clearly the support they had given him during his own political battles.
Wike has remained a major political figure within the Tinubu administration, despite his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party and the political differences that have continued to trail his support for the APC-led Federal Government.
His latest comments are expected to deepen political tension between the FCT minister and the two APC governors as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
