Muhammad Bello Dalhatu has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Kano State after defeating Mohammed Abacha, eldest son of late former Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, in the party’s primary election.
Announcing the result on Monday, Chairman of the PDP Kano Governorship Primary Election Committee, Umar Hadejia, said the exercise was peaceful, transparent and conducted in line with party guidelines.
According to the results, Abacha polled 749 votes, while Dalhatu secured 2,233 votes to clinch the party’s ticket.
“Having scored the highest number of valid votes cast, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Dalhatu is hereby declared winner of the PDP governorship primary election and returned as the party’s candidate for Kano State,” Hadejia said.
The committee commended aspirants, delegates and party stakeholders for conducting themselves peacefully during the exercise.
Mohammed Abacha had also contested for the PDP governorship ticket in 2023 but lost after a prolonged internal party crisis.
