KANO – The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissolved its Kano State Executive Committee and appointed a caretaker committee to take charge of the party’s affairs pending the emergence of a new leadership.
The announcement was made on Monday by the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North-West), Hajiya Najaatu Mohammed, during a press conference at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Kano.
Mohammed said the decision was taken by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in line with the ADC Constitution and the Electoral Act to address a leadership vacuum and prevent uncertainty within the Kano chapter.
She explained that the move was aimed at preserving the unity, stability and continuity of the party’s activities in the state.
“This important action is not out of preference, but out of constitutional duty. Every action taken has been guided by the Constitution of our party, the Electoral Act and our collective responsibility to protect the future of the ADC in Kano State,” she said.
According to her, the party’s constitution provides a clear legal framework for restoring order whenever internal challenges threaten its administration.
“Our Constitution exists precisely for moments such as this. It provides a lawful path to restore stability, preserve continuity and ensure that the affairs of the party continue uninterrupted,” Mohammed added.
She stressed that the national leadership could not stand by while uncertainty engulfed the party’s structure in Kano.
“A political party is built on order, discipline and continuity. Without those pillars, confusion replaces organisation and uncertainty replaces confidence,” she stated.
Mohammed, however, urged party members not to see the dissolution of the state executive as a condemnation of the commitment or loyalty of members.
“The constitution of a Caretaker Committee must never be interpreted as a judgment on the commitment, loyalty or contributions of the thousands of faithful members of our party across Kano State. Our members remain the greatest strength of this party,” she said.
She praised party faithful for their dedication despite political challenges, noting that many had sacrificed time, resources and personal reputation to build the ADC at the grassroots.
The ADC chieftain appealed to stakeholders and members across the state to rally behind the caretaker committee to strengthen the party ahead of future political activities.
She expressed confidence that adherence to the party’s constitution and democratic principles would position the ADC for greater success in Kano.
Mohammed announced that the newly inaugurated caretaker committee would be chaired by Alhaji Umar Bala, while Isma’il Musa will serve as secretary until a substantive state executive is elected.
