Calabar — June 2026 — The Nigerian Army has confirmed that a brief unauthorised incursion by personnel of the Cameroonian Armed Forces into Danare community in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State was swiftly resolved through military diplomacy, preventing any escalation along the Nigeria–Cameroon border.
The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army explained that the incident, which occurred on 9 June 2026, was triggered by a dispute over the collection of levies on farmland straddling the border between Danare (Nigeria) and Dadi community (Cameroon).
In a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayon, the Army said troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Danare immediately intervened upon receiving reports of the incursion.
According to the statement, Nigerian troops promptly engaged appropriate Cameroonian military authorities through established border communication channels, leading to the orderly withdrawal of Cameroonian personnel from Nigerian territory.
“The situation was professionally handled and de-escalated in line with existing bilateral border protocols,” the Army stated, noting that no violence or casualties were recorded during the incident.
The Nigerian Army assured residents of Danare and surrounding communities that the situation is under control and that security has been reinforced to prevent further tensions.
It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity while maintaining peaceful coexistence with neighbouring countries, especially in border communities where transnational interactions are common.
The Division urged residents to remain calm and continue lawful economic activities while security agencies monitor developments along the frontier.
