Oyedele Launches Digital Tax Ombud Platforms to Fast-Track Dispute Resolution and Boost Taxpayer Trust

Abuja, Nigeria — The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, has unveiled new digital platforms for the Office of the Tax Ombud, aimed at improving taxpayer protection, accelerating dispute resolution, and strengthening public confidence in Nigeria’s tax system.

The platforms—comprising a case management portal, official website, and toll-free call centre—were launched on Monday in Abuja as part of ongoing federal tax reforms designed to create a more transparent and efficient revenue administration framework.

Oyedele said the initiative reflects government’s commitment to simplifying tax processes and ensuring that taxpayers can easily access fair and timely resolution of complaints.

“Taxpayers, regardless of location, can now engage more easily with the dispute resolution process without unnecessary administrative bottlenecks or delays. And the good news is that it is entirely free,” he said.

The digital system allows individuals and businesses to file complaints online, track case progress in real time, and receive updates through an integrated platform. The toll-free line also provides direct access for taxpayers seeking assistance or lodging disputes.

The Tax Ombud, Dr. John Nwabueze, described the platforms as a major step toward delivering efficient, transparent, and globally aligned taxpayer services. He said the initiative will reduce delays and improve accountability within the tax administration system.

Established under the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2025, the Office of the Tax Ombud serves as an independent mechanism to address grievances, curb abuse of tax authority, and reduce litigation between taxpayers and revenue agencies.

The launch was attended by senior government officials, including the Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, Head of the Civil Service Didi Esther Walson-Jack, development partners, and stakeholders in the fiscal and tax ecosystem.

Officials say the initiative is expected to reduce tax disputes, improve voluntary compliance, and support efforts to increase Nigeria’s tax-to-GDP ratio while fostering greater trust between citizens and government.

Taxpayers can access the services via the official portal or through the toll-free helpline.
